MECHANICAL ENGINEER

BC Building Science is looking for a Junior to Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our successful team.  The role involves design review of building HVAC systems from energy perspective during schematic to detailed design phases.  Further, field review and performance test / verification of building HVAC systems during construction are involved.  Energy audit and software simulation may also be integrated into the process.  The successful candidate will be supervised by a professional engineer.

What we expect from you:

  • A Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering focused on HVAC / Energy.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC system details and related standards & guidelines (ASHRAE / CSA).
  • Minimum one-year design or construction field experience with HVAC systems.
  • Full understanding of BC Building Code.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral.
  • Excellent team player as part of the design and construction teams.
  • Having experience in energy audits, HVAC maintenance, or designations with EGBC, ASHRAE, BCxA, AEE, or similar institutes is a bonus.

What you are going to do:

  • Performing review of building HVAC systems during design, construction, and post-occupancy from performance and code perspectives,
  • Communication and ongoing correspondence with related parties including Developers, Designers, Contractors, and Architects, during building design and construction, and
  • Conducting on-site and computer-based performance assessment and energy audit of buildings.
