BC Building Science got involved in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup last Friday by spending an afternoon picking up garbage at Sapperton Landing – a park near our office that runs along the Fraser River.

Last Monday, BCBS volunteered at New Westminster’s branch of the Union Gospel Mission. We helped serve breakfast to around 120 members of the community, and had a good time chatting with everyone involved. It was an honour to give back to our community, and we hope to return!

Congratulations to Jordana of BC Building Science for receiving the Professional Leadership Award for Women in Technology! Thank you to Jason Jung of ASTTBC for coming out to present this award – it recognizes Jordana for distinguishing herself in her field of technology and demonstrating leadership within the Association or local community by serving as a role model and promoting careers in technology.

BC Building Science was invited to participate in the Scotiabank Bowl for Big Brothers Classic this year, and had a great time bowling at the western-themed event last week. Together, the BCBS team raised $1, 230 to support the Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver in their mission to support child and youth development through essential volunteer-led mentoring programs. BC Building Science teamed up with Centra Windows to help complete a window replacement project at BCIT’s Centre of Architectural Ecology. Check out BCIT’s article for an interesting analysis of the project.

On Saturday, BCBS had the chance to speak with Grade 10 to 12 students from schools across the lower mainland about sustainability related careers as part of ‘Green Collar Futures’ – a career conference hosted by Green Bricks Education Society. Check out their website here.

Michael Aw of BCBS presented at BCBEC’s luncheon yesterday on the characteristics and aesthetics of charred wood as a cladding material. The presentation was a collaboration between Michael and two of his fellow BCIT students, and drew on the capstone research project that they completed together in their final year.

Big shout out to Jordana for her great video supporting Women in Technology. This video is being shown in schools throughout BC to show girls and women the different career opportunities out there in this field. Click here to watch.

A few BCBS team members completed their fall protection training at EnviroSafety yesterday…and had a great time. Who knew safety training could be so much fun?

Our latest roofing project involved removing a 40-year-old roof and replacing it with a new exterior insulated membrane assembly.
