BC BUILDING SCIENCE BREAKS DOWN THE ART OF GLASS THICKNESS TESTING!
BCBS’s growing list of services provided includes many highly specialized assessments, and that includes our more recent addition of glass thickness testing. An insulated glazing unit, otherwise known as an IGU, is a double-glazed or triple-glazed window consisting of two or more glass panes separated by a space filled with air or an inert gas such as argon. This sealed space acts as insulation, reducing heat transfer and improving the window’s energy efficiency. Glass thickness testing during the construction phase is necessary to verify that the installed IGUs comply with the project’s documents in terms of glass thickness, surface coatings, and air spaces. The test is conducted by measuring the IGUs using a non-destructive, specialized instrument and then recording the observations. Ensuring that these types of crucial measurements are assessed at the right time, using cutting edge technology, is all part of the exacting work that BCBS performs so that there are no unpleasant surprises post-construction!
