BC BUILDING SCIENCE SUPPORTS FUTURE INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS!
BCBS recently had the pleasure of hosting a work experience student from BCIT’s Architectural and Building Technology program who we provided learning opportunities both in the office and in the field. Work experience occasions such as this one are often referred to as co-op placements or internships and are incredibly valuable for students, not just for their resumes but for their confidence, clarity, and future direction planning. Here is a look at the key benefits:
Real-World Skill Development
Students move beyond theory and learn how things are done in a professional setting, consequently strengthening:
- Communication and teamwork.
- Time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Problem-solving in real situations.
- Workplace etiquette, professionalism, and adaptability to workplace culture.
Increased Confidence & Independence
Being in a professional environment also helps students grow personally and to:
- Develop self-confidence through achievement.
- Learn to navigate new environments independently.
- Improve decision-making skills.
Stronger Resume & Application Packages
Employers and universities value practical experience which enables a job seeker to:
- Stand out from other candidates.
- Show initiative and motivation.
- Provide real examples in interviews.
Networking Opportunities
Students begin building meaningful connections early by:
- Meeting professionals in their field of interest.
- Gaining mentors who can guide and support them.
- Having doors opened to potential future job opportunities.
Hosting a work experience student is a win-win situation for students and hosting companies, and we look forward to welcoming more students in the future!
