BCBS ARTFULLY BRINGS THE PAST AND THE PRESENT TOGETHER!
Each September the temperatures begin to dip and the sun slides behind the clouds, signalling a return to the classroom for many of all ages across this province. With progress on so many levels, combined with significant changes to the world we live in, we are no longer limited to traditional educational models, nor is education facilitated in the same way. Today we have a plethora of educational schemes available, and choices for how and where people are educated have also grown exponentially. While several municipalities are making updates to their programmes, they still want to preserve their original school buildings to honour both the past and where we’ve come from. A terrific example of this is the Schou Education Centre in Burnaby, where BC Building Science was an integral part of this building’s innovative renovation. This stunning, new-meets-old structure is a 3-storey concrete / steel-framed (new portion) and wood-framed (heritage portion) building which has been skillfully renovated, joining the two sides via walkways. To comply with the city’s energy requirements, BCBS conducted airtightness testing at both mid-construction and upon completion ensuring that the Schou Education Centre’s energy efficiency is as optimal as its functionality and beauty!
