FLUID THINKING

October 2nd, 2024

By: BC Building Science

Many thanks to Abbas for offering his vision of fluid thinking at BCBS, a concept we will continue to enjoy exploring in future posts.

Other than colour, there are no major visual architectural differences between the two homes with significantly different performance targets.

BCBS is proud to be part of the Cascadia Townhome project in Langley being developed by StreetSide Developments.  BCBS is involved as the Building Envelope Professional (BEP) on this project.

While the building code energy requirement (for the Township of Langley) was to meet Step 2 of the BC Energy Step Code, StreetSide Developments in partnership with the Township of Langley decided to pursue Step 5 (and CHBA Net Zero Home program) for select buildings in the development.

This decision was made well after the architectural design (including building form and geometry) was finalized.

This resulted in BCBS adapting and applying enhanced building envelope details to meet the stringent Step 5 / Net Zero targets while working within the limits of the current architectural form.  In addition to this, we were able to meet the targets while also using standard building construction products and materials.
