Seasonal weather and ongoing damp conditions can cause your cladding to lose its lustre, but an easily kept maintenance schedule can rejuvenate your cladding’s shine and durability.

Cladding Care & Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning
    • Wash cladding at least once or twice a year, preferably at the season change, to prevent dirt, algae, or pollution build-up.
    • Use mild soap / detergent and low-pressure washers, avoiding both harsh chemicals and high-pressure washers which can damage cladding.

  • Inspection
    • Check every 6–12 months for cracks, loose panels, corrosion, or signs of water ingress.
    • Pay particular attention to joints, sealants, and edges where the problems often start.

  • Repairs
    • Promptly repair or replace damaged sections to avoid structural or moisture issues.
    • Be sure to ensure replacement pieces match the original materials for appearance and weatherproofing.

  • Protection
    • Trim vegetation near cladding to reduce staining and moisture retention.
    • Keep gutters and downspouts clean so runoff does not damage the cladding surface.

Not all cladding materials are alike, so here are some important material specific tips:

  • Metal cladding:
    • Rinse regularly to prevent corrosion.
    • Recoat protective finishes if paint or coatings begin to peel.

  • Wood cladding:
    • Re-stain or re-seal every 3–5 years.
    • Check for rot, termites, carpenter ants, and warping.

  • Stone or brick veneer:
    • Inspect mortar joints and re-point if cracks appear.
    • Use breathable sealants, if needed.

  • Vinyl or composite cladding:
    • Hose down with soapy water.
    • Avoid abrasive tools that could scratch the surface.

With just a little conscientious effort, you can keep your cladding performing efficiently and looking its best!
