BC Building Science was retained by the Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre as the Building Envelope Consultant for the Tillicum Lelum Childcare Centre. Located at 477 Tenth Street in Nanaimo, the Tillicum Lelum Childcare Centre is a 2-storey wood-framed building constructed on a concrete slab on grade, featuring cedar siding.
The Tillicum Lelum Childcare Centre provides Indigenous-focused childcare for approximately 50 children between ages three and 12 years old. It contains a storytelling room and a hand carved cedar protection totem. This centre is part of the Tillicum Village complex which is also comprised of a youth and elders’ residence, affordable housing units, a youth safe house, a young mom’s house, and a community garden.
