The Strata Council for Governor Point engaged BC Building Science to provide a second opinion assessment report, given that a previous report contained extensive renewal recommendations – essentially total building exterior restoration – at a considerable cost ranging from $4.0M to $5.0M.
Once certified, the Okanagan College Daycare will be one of the first non-residential passive houses in Canada. As the Passive House Consultant for the team, BC Building Science provided input crucial to certification – the PHPP model, and consultation on envelope, mechanical and electrical systems.
The day started with a fun, private jet plane ride to the float glass plant and then back on the plane for a quick flight to Hood River, Oregon to see the IGU plant up close (all flights are quick when you’re on a private jet plane!). The trip ended with a nice morning of golf down in Hood River.
A swing stage is a work platform suspended alongside a building from hooks over the parapet above, and can be raised and lowered using a system of pulleys and cables. These platforms are useful for completing exterior reviews and water ingress investigations. To grow our team of people certified for swing stage operation, four of our consultants recently attended Suspended Stages’ swing stage training session.
