BC BUILDING SCIENCE TAKES ITS INNOVATIVE TESTING TO HIGHER LEVELS!
In the wake of rapidly changing technology plus concerted efforts to keep new buildings as safe and efficient as possible, The BC Building Code established new guidelines in 2023 for airtightness testing. Diagnostic air tests are now required both during construction and at occupancy.
Mid-construction airtightness tests strive to identify air leaks as well as assesses the performance of the air barrier and detect discontinuities in its installation. Subsequent testing after the building is finished ensures that the whole system is working efficiently and is up to code. By not leaving the testing until the building’s completion, there is a far better chance of reaching the desired efficiency targets and any issues can be addressed mid-way, ultimately saving everyone considerable time and resources!
