BCBS GIVES BACK TO THE EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY!
BC Building Science specialists Ali and Pedram recently hosted BCIT Building Science Master’s students at one of its current projects in North Vancouver. Leading the tour, Ali provided insights into the below-grade assemblies, emphasizing the importance of positive laps, the continuity of the waterproofing membrane, and the compatibility of the materials in these assemblies.
For the above-grade assembly, Ali explained the split insulated wall assembly and highlighted the critical roles of vapour-permeable membranes and 6 mil poly in ensuring airtightness in this specific project. Additionally, Ali discussed the waterproofing of the roof and planters, and he also stressed the importance of proper detailing around windows and vent ducts.
On their Linkedin page, The BCIT Building Science Club posted an enthusiastic account of their experience, and graciously thanked Ali and Pedram for hosting and for Ali’s detailed tour that allowed them a clearer and more practical understanding of real world building envelope applications. They noted that it was exciting to see so many elements they normally only have an opportunity to study via drawings and photos, making this tour with industry professionals an invaluable learning experience!
